Agency Performance Improvement Toolkit

The Agency Performance Improvement Toolkit provided an overview of performance improvement for EMS agencies and provides guidance on starting a Quality Improvement Committee.

Current Projects

The following are the current performance improvement projects within the Southern Alleghenies EMS Council region:

  • Cardiac Arrest Reporting:  Effective February 1, 2018, all ALS agencies will be required to participate in the Cardiac Arrest Registry known as CARES and submit cardiac arrest data to the registry.  For those agencies not yet registered, the CARES application can be found HERE.  All ALS agencies are required to submit data starting no later than February 1, 2018.  For more information on the CARES Registry, please contact kimbra.shoop@smemsc.org.
  • Air Medical Transport:  Effective January 15, 2018, all agencies will be required to provide data on air ambulance response and transport within the Region.  The survey document can be found HERE, and all out-of-hospital air medical requests and responses should be reported.  The highest level ground EMS agency (ALS, BLS, QRS) on the response should be the agency completing the survey.

EMS Agency Performance Improvement Checklist

This checklist is designed to be regularly completed after a specific measurement period determined by the EMS agency. The measurement period may be monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. Use the checklist to start your performance improvement program.
